Though I have to pull out the manuals regularly in order to get best results, and I find it's user interface quirky, I think it is a pretty good program, and the one I'd still be using over all the others, if I didn't have Dundjinni. It has a friendly and helpful usergroup in the forums who will jump in to provide help (I should know.they help me all the time.) As I mentioned earlier, I recommend Dundjinni without reservation.įor the time being, however, I'll probably stick with CC-Pro for regional and campaign level maps. As mentioned earlier, Cecil and others (ChicagoMapper, Metajock, Annalyzza, EvilEmpyress) have supplemented the artwork Fluid has made available, making an already good program even more rich. it just doesn't get much easier than Dundjinni. For buildings, castles, dungeons, rooms, etc.
I've seen people do some beautiful work at the campaign scale, but I think it is still a stretch for Dundjinni. For most of my mapping needs, Dundjinni is all I need. I've also used Autorealm and played with Gridsmith's demo. I've used many programs and have purchased CC-Pro (and addons) and Dundjinni. Give the tutorial a quick read (won't take too long), and jump in. It has a pretty good demo that will let you see how the program works. Check out the website at While I will keep Fractal Mapper and CC-Pro around, my map-making program of choice will be Dundjinni. Dundjinni has some outstanding users who are regularly adding to the fairly rich set of objects that the program makes available. It'll have more detail that CC-Pro ever dreamed of putting on a map, and you can output to battlemaps that are already scaled for miniatures. Quick to learn, one can have a simple map of a building or a small area ready in a couple of hours.

Macros make life a lot easier, and it is worth learning how to use them. It has a loyal user community that makes maps and macros available both at the profantasy site, as well as at the Yahoo Groups site. At least I can't make it do anything quickly. CC-Pro (newest version) can do any map making/cartographic chore you might have, but it doesn't do it quickly. The newest versions, particularly the Castle pack, make it a much more approachable program, though it remains one that only rewards a great deal of effort.

You still have to make the software do what you need and each has different ways that they go about that. When you say you have "tried these mapping programs" which are you talking about and how long have you tried? No matter what software you're using these things will not make the map FOR you.
